Donut Worry

June 5, 2020

Hello friends!  I hope this blog post finds you well.

To be completely honest so much has happened since I last wrote to you that I’m not entirely sure where to begin…

Since today is National Donut Day, I think sharing the status of my business would be an appropriate place to start. Due to circumstances, I had to close my business indefinitely. But donut worry! I fully intend to reopen and continue with this entrepreneurial adventure. In fact, this has allowed me time to restructure my business and focus (a lot) on finishing school.

While things did not go in the way that I anticipated, I really enjoyed my senior year of high school! Before quarantine, I was able to go on a high school hike to the Griffith Observatory, and hang out with my friends.

During quarantine, I decided to especially make the most of each and every single moment! I signed up for quite a few virtual events like high school movie day and graduation cap decorating.

As the city eased itself slowly out of quarantine, I was excited at the prospect of going back to ”normal” whatever that may be now. I looked forward to the possibility of dine-in to support the restaurants that have been devastated by the pandemic. Then the country and perhaps the world was heartbroken, including myself over the injustice and inequitable treatment that exists in our country today. I didn't know if I should be angry or sad, but definitely heartbroken. Then my school sent an encouraging email to help parents help their children which ended with a quote by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

This quote inspired me to be that love and light to protect, foster, and extend peace and freedom for all humanity.  As a member of the graduating class of 2020, we have the responsibility and power to move forward and make those much needed changes in our world around us. I learned from the Seven Habits that this all starts with yourself. With that in mind, I thank you iLEAD Exploration for all you have done to help us learners grow into who we are today and for celebrating how far we have come. Your philosophy and leadership guides me in how to be a better citizen of this world.

Our virtual commencement was held in the midst of all this but I moved my tassel with pride.  With surprise guests congratulating and encouraging us, I could not ask for a better graduation. Here are a couple of encouragement the guests left our class of 2020 with.

“You guys are thriving, you guys are out there, you guys are being responsible, you guys are the future, and I am so happy that you are our future. And we are doing everything we can, as older folk, to make it possible for you to take over when it is your right to take over. Which is now! Okay? Congratulations I send tons of support, tons of love, and tons of hoorah! And no snaps!” ~ Josh Brolin

“Excited for you and your accomplishments in such a unique time for this world. And look what you have accomplished! So excited! Man, looks like you have been prepared for such a time as this. Excited to see how you impact your communities and the world.” ~ Rocky Seto

I’m very excited to announce that I plan to continue both my entrepreneurial and educational journey following graduation. I am
