Hello friends! Thank you for all the encouraging words and support. I wanted to write a blog post about the process of starting my business and intend to keep you updated in the future.
This past week, I took a trip to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Main Office to file for my Fictitious Business Name aka DBA (Doing Business As).
When arriving at the counter, I had told the clerk that I wanted to file for a Fictitious Business Name and handed her my paperwork. You can fill out the DBA form there but I chose to do mine at home.
To verify, you must show your ID. So I gave her my school ID. The reaction on her face was priceless. All she could say was "how old are you?" My ID says that I am a 9th grader. Long Story short, they needed an official ID like a driver's license or passport. I have a passport but I was only five at the time and it had expired. Now my mum is officially my joint venture co-signer (one with the proper identification). She quickly called herself CFO. Go figure!
After entering my DBA, I am required to publish my Fictitious Business name in a newspaper for four weeks due to California State Law. I went online and processed to have my DBA published in the British Weekly. I am looking forward to the first publication with my business name on it!
Unfortunately, applying for the Cottage Food Operation license and the business license requires initial approval from the City Hall's Planning Department for the occupancy permit. I am still waiting to hear from them because according to the planning department, I am the first CFO applicant. Currently they do not have any policy or procedure set to give any approval. They informed us that a team is called to establish one in order to process our application. Can't wait to hear from them soon!
